fic talk: halfway there? maybe?
Aug. 3rd, 2025 03:23 pmi had a big breakthrough for this fic on monday! i had originally planned to have a specific plot point happen at about the one-quarter mark because i feel like i haven't seen a lot of writing do this kind of plot point at this point in the plot, but i was really struggling to pace the rest of the fic. as it turns out, you don't see this kind of timing for this kind of plot point for a reason. who'd'a thunk!

fic talk: writing about writing
Jun. 7th, 2025 07:32 pmwords about words! i'm writing a long...er fic again and, as always, i have Thoughts. (primarily: oh god the word count keeps going up help)
for last year, one of the goals i set (and achieved!) was to write a humorous fic — something funny for the sake of being funny. i really, really love reading humorous fics and i'd tried multiple times to write something start-to-finish humorous (i'm pretty sure there's at least one author's note on my fics saying something like "well this was supposed to be funny"), but i didn't actually achieve it until in stitches. none of the fic i've posted since then has been explicitly humorous start-to-finish, but i've noticed that in general, humor has become much more present as i'm writing; the conscious effort it took to write something humorous really made an impression on me, and i've been wanting to do it again.
so here i am! 15k words into an explicitly humorous fic. with much more to go.
( help )
the Zofia Turbotyńska mystery series, written by Maryla Szymiczkowa, currently spans two books translated to english (Mrs. Mohr Goes Missing and Karolina and the Torn Curtain) and five total in the original polish, and follows a bored, nosy social climber as she decides that she can do detective work in mid-1890s kraków after reading some poe.
i've been in a major reading slump for a long time now, and somehow last year i started to read a bunch of nonfiction, which i'd never really gone for before, ever. i also had a realization today while mulling over the histrom i'm about 75% of the way through that i really like the problem-solving more than the romance itself, lol. anyways! words about words.
( misc. nonfiction, mostly fashion )
( those stupid faerie books )it feels good to be reading again! it's been really good to get into reading nonfiction; i'm finding it very easy to pick up and put down rather than getting sucked in like i do with novels or longfic.

Jan. 1st, 2024 01:27 pmwow, i have a lot to say this year; decided to turn these into a general "year in fashion" since i'm really starting to think of lolita fashion and my normie/work/whatever wardrobe in the same way.
( starting off with lolita fashion! )
( and onto daily wear/work wardrobe (and also meandering back to lolita) )
anyways! this was a really, really good year for me fashion-wise. here's to more comfort and fun in the coming year.

fic talk: yeah, fuck it, alright
Jul. 2nd, 2023 08:19 pmi was REALLY in my feelings about this last week but spent some time letting the thoughts percolate, and you know what, i AM going to do a thorough, bottom-to-top overhaul/edit/rewrite/whatever of P vs NP.
P vs NP was written in short bursts: first between 2014 and 2015, then in 2016, then in 2019, then in 2020, and finally in 2021. this is a very long series of stretches between years, during which my writing has changed in terms of both process and end result. in spite of the editing i’ve done on individual parts, this fic still has never gotten one single cohesive editing pass as whole so you know what, 2023 might as well be the year for it.

fic talk: no quarter post-mortem
Jun. 25th, 2023 05:49 pmno quarter is done! and holy shit, i just realized that this makes it six months to the day.
( ...hey basia, did you start writing this fic on christmas day? )
( the journey (and everyone i dragged into hell with me) )
all in all: very satisfied with this fic. glad that it was this that pulled me back to rvb and that i got so much out of it.
EDIT: also tracked word count in gdocs vs. AO3 (per chapter) this time around! it was very interesting: gdocs has 51,630 words and AO3 has 51,765 words, and the word count discrepancy was all over the place. some chapters had a difference of about 10-15 words (and seemingly no pattern as to whether AO3 would be less or more than gdocs), and one chapter was about 90 words less in AO3 than gdocs. three chapters had the exact same word count. 🤷♂️ i can only guess this has something to do with how AO3 and gdocs each parse hyphenations.
vague thoughts on social media
Jun. 20th, 2023 09:45 pmpretty tired as of writing this but DW is a nice journaling space so bear with me here. i've been thinking a lot recently on how i use social media - why am i using this [insert service], what do i want out of [insert service], etc. - and on how that's changed from the past.
the tl;dr is that social media sucks and we live in an absolute hellscape but my dearest friends live very, very far away from me, and i'm glad for this way of connecting with them. 🤷♂️ the Tired is growing so i'm just going to list out a bunch of stuff i've been consciously choosing to do recently that's been a good change for me.

fic talk: no quarter
Apr. 28th, 2023 04:09 pmwow, it's been a while. to get right into it, this post was sparked specifically because earlier today i drove a nice big loop around the area — incidentally, it was the same drive i referenced at the end of this post. truly mindblowing how life changes.
in any case, hi, i'm writing rvb longfic again (hi writing rvb longfic again), i have navel-gazey thoughts on writing itself.
( wuh oh how does markdown work again )
DW still feels like a nicer place to put Fic Thoughts than tungle, even though i'm using tungle regularly again. i should go back to putting fic thoughts here. :B
year in fic: 2022
Jan. 1st, 2023 10:42 amword count for posted works: 19,092 words
word count for unposted works (incl. wip): 21,457 words
total word count: 40,549 words
pretty writing-light year for me, not entirely sure why; so it goes, though, i guess. i wrote a lot in both 2020 and 2021 so i suppose it's natural to have a bit of a fallow year. and what a way to end the year too — S11 au sequel cooking in the oven. i may never actually be free of that goddamn show.
wardrobe post 2022
Jan. 27th, 2022 06:41 pm
i've never done a formal wardrobe post before, but here we go! i'm keeping this to main pieces, blouses, and outerwear; i just don't have the energy to try taking photos of my legwear or other accessories. i keep a pretty meticulous spreadsheet of the things i own, so i don't feel like i need to reprise all of it with photos.
year in egl: 2021
Jan. 1st, 2022 05:21 pmegl fashion year in review time! tl;dr i bought a lot of things. among them, honey cake. this is all that matters. thank you for your time.
year in fic: 2021
Jan. 1st, 2022 11:44 amword count for posted works: 61,474 words
word count for unposted works: 13,580 words
total word count: 75,054 words
this total word count is off on account of the posted works; i have no clue how to count the rewritten chapter for S11 au. in terms of net word count, S11 au as a whole gained 4,005 words - but almost the entirety of this chapter was rewritten from the ground up. my total word count for the chapter was 43,740, according to AO3, so i whacked 2k off of that as a very generous estimate of the words or phrases here and there that i left intact.
in any case: 7 individual works posted/updated in 2021 across 4 fandoms! deets under the cut.

( thoughts (mostly about S11 au)(lol) )
and the usual end-of-year meme! as with every year i've done this, i'm defining "successful" as "achieving what i wanted to achieve" rather than any kind of numbers metric.

wow it's been a while since i last used DW. but. can't fear your own world is a light novel in three volumes written by narita ryougo in collaboration with kubo tite. it's set six months after the end of the bleach manga, and follows 9th division assistant captain hisagi shuuhei as he gets tangled up into events wildly out of his scope purely by accident.
( the 'i read this so you won't have to' part )

fic talk: edit slog
May. 19th, 2021 06:12 pmcurrently on a two-week "vacation" in poland (i.e., some family stuff) so i'm using this time to get some more work done on rewriting S11 au part I, and boy, is it a lot of work.
