i did this over on twitter, but i wanted to expand on some of these answers as i crosspost so here we go! original post via tumblr.

onwards! )

boy, i burned myself out so bad. so so so bad. i'm still gonna leave off working on it for a while, but i'm back to the point now where i'm kinda ambiently thinking about it - half-daydreaming out small things here and there, etc. i figured out how i want to do a Big Moment in a way that feels natural for everyone involved, and i'm really itching to write it. i'm planning on just dumping it into a note on my phone so that i don't feel like i've got to, like, immerse myself back in the meat of the fic, and now that i'm writing this out i'm really really itching to do it.

other than that, the plan for easing back into this fic is gonna be to get down some notes on paper - first write down what i remember as being the big relevant plot points, then write up a completely fresh set of notes for moving forward, without consulting old notes. and then i'll go back and pick through the doc.

that being said, destiny's new season launches on tuesday and that absolutely has wild-card potential to derail me entirely and spawn some fic, so we'll see (and honestly... here's hoping it burns enough of a hole in me to want to write more fic).

groans. shorter fic is still so fuckin hard.

convergence was fun to write, even when i hit the inevitable slog point. i feel like every "shortfic" (i really hesitate to call it that, what i really mean is anything ~5k ish or less) i write is making me better at editing, though.

snip... snip....... )

i'd forgotten just how god damn hard it is for me to write something shorter. i am also very tired this week but in a good way. are drabbles the fic equivalent of jorts?

anyways.

it'll be about 2k, they said. probably not more, they said. )

and this is still my favorite segment of anything i've written recently, from forfeit: )

oof, writing has been hard this week. i've been writing, though! it feels good to know i'm writing even when it feels bad to write. i've been doing 15-minute sprints with a friend pretty regularly and it is so #validating to see my word count tick up and to know i'm making progress. even when it feels like shit.

(i need to stop trying to make witty titles.)

anyways, i started doing writing sprints with a friend and why did i never do this before. this has been such a sledgehammer for every block i've run into in the past week or so (which, wildly enough, has been a lot of blocks). this is so much fun. seriously, why in all hells did i not do this before.

the writing about writing about writing part )

and for a short fragment from tonight's sprint that i liked: )

had a good armor meta (lol) chat that reminded me of something i've been on the fence about changing in S11 au: maine's armor.

i'm stuck on a chunk of exposition early into part iii of S11 au and it's a sucky feeling. i'm at a good place to refresh wash's (and the audience's) knowledge of goings-on, but i can't find a good way to get it all out. i haven't written in a week and it feels bad.

i was going through my comments on S11 au a few weeks ago as a pep talk/ego boost and i came across some feedback i had completely forgotten about: "At first the fic summary was vague enough to make me almost skip over it, I'm so glad I didn't."

welp )

it's a little funny just how much my plan/outline can change in just under a week. i'm not sure what to think of it, except that i was going through my doc full of fragments looking for something in particular when i realized... i'm going to have to toss so much of this because of what i've changed. and here i'd been thinking, "oh, how nice, i've got so much of part iii written!"

alrighty, here's a grand old spoilery post on my thoughts.

woof. getting ready to post. will probably post this week, if not tonight or tomorrow. and of course, that good ol' anxiety that i'm going to miss something is here!

but no, really, i think i'm ready. every edit i've been making in the past week has been a very minor nitpick (swapping out words, rearranging sentences for easier comprehension, etc.) and i know i've made all of the major changes this part needed. i'm nearly through with this last run of nitpicks, and then all i've got left is to run it through that gdocs-to-AO3 formatter and voila.

i hope it's enjoyable, i hope there's not a jarring style shift, i hope i've done everyone justice, i hope i've slow-roasted canon in the oven long enough that the meat is tender and falls right off the bones. but! in the end, i'm proud of what i have written for myself. and really, that's what matters.

UPDATE: posted. no need to hem and haw over something i know i already feel good about. a good way to top off my sunday!

title courtesy of cat. reading through part i of S11 au is making me realize how much fluff is in here. not the trope, Fluff™ (though... yeah, gotta have some of that), but the "inserting formless content" kind. the lovely kind on aurash's big ol' fluffy belly that she's shedding everywhere.

i decided on a method for revisions that'll hopefully soothe my eternally nitpicky soul: as i reread part 1 for a context check, i'll let myself do whatever edits i feel like doing. nuke it to hell, cut things out willy-nilly, whatever, it's all living in a separate doc anyways. we'll see how it goes! maybe that'll get some of this restless GOTTA POST IT energy out of me.

i'm also not sure if this'll be beta'd before posting; my usual beta's got some stuff going on, and i don't want to add more stress on their pile by even asking. but! that's ok. their beta job on part 1 was so thorough and i learned *so much* from it that i can conclusively point to it and be like, "this, this here, this helped me become a better writer and better at revising my work." (that's seriously a whole 'nother post's worth of praise. e did a phenomenal job whipping part 1 into shape, and i am eternally grateful.) i feel good when i look back at the revised-but-unbeta'd things i've posted recently, so i know i can do a satisfactory job revising this on my own.

that said, if anyone reading this would be up for being a second set of eyes to any capacity (from a quick check for typos to unleashing hell on this document or anything in between), lemme know :B

there's a word for this, i just can't remember what it is right now. (stares into half-empty cup of coffee, waiting for answers to manifest alongside awakeness.) but! a more cohesive series of thoughts on part 2 of S11 au now that i'm done.

by fucking jove, i'm done )

I'M DONE!! THAT'S IT! PART 2 OF S11 AU IS READY FOR A MOUNTAINLOAD OF REVISIONS AND I COULD NOT POSSIBLY BE MORE EXCITED ABOUT IT!!!!!

it only took NEARLY THREE GODDAMN YEARS but it's done! the second part of this thing is fucking done!

currently clocking in at 21,881 words (of 62,316 total), and doubtless that number will go up and i pick through and edit things. i'm not currently capable of thinking any more deeply than DONE! DONE! DONE! DONE! DONE! DONE! DONE! so i'll write up something more later, probably. i'm done with this part. i'm done. i'm done!

i don't take constructive criticism on my bad puns, thanks.

anyways! a probably-long-overdue post on chorus canon, halo canon, and S11 canon. i mean au.

17,017 words for this chunk of S11 au! yeehaw. yet again i find myself not reaching for the bits and pieces i've already got written, but, eh. whatever. what i've been thinking about lately has been characterization, and doing a particular character justice, so that's what this word dump will be about.

yet again! i find myself in that situation where i have something written for a particular scene and yet! again! i get in the swing of writing it and use none of what i've already written. this isn't necessarily a complaint, but like, what phenomenon is this? how come my brain does this? left brain knoweth not something something?

anyways, this just about wraps up a Very Important Scene that i'm glad is finally done. i'm also glad that i ended up re-writing through what little i'd had planned for it, because i like it a lot better this way. i just have a connector segment of travel to write, then an Event i have partially written, and then this big chunk will be more or less ready to post. which is a wack thought, but again, i'm so happy i've gone back to writing this and it feels so good and i'm excited to share it. onwards, upwards, etc.
