fic talk: first draft done!

sword_logicit's full of holes, but it's DONE! it's currently clocking in just shy of 45k words, which is... actually a little less than i thought it would be, lol. i have a lot (a lot) of editing to do, so i'm curious if it'll crack 50k once that's all done. i also have quite the amount of gaps to fill, but those are mostly transitions and connective tissue.
i've been writing pretty much nonstop since tuesday, which is the most consistently i've written in a solid few months. i was wondering if being on vacation would give me the time/space/energy to finish the first draft of this fic, and i'm so glad it did! i had vague thoughts much earlier in the year of finishing and starting to post this fic before the end of the year, but despite the first 3 chapters being finished, edited, and in posting shape for quite some time now, i think i'm going to hold off on The Postening until i've got all the gaps filled. i'm going to leave this whole document alone for a few days, probably till i'm back home on sunday, and then i'll read over what i've written and see how i'm feeling about the amount of editing i've got ahead of me.
the editing strategy i used for no quarter really worked for me, and i think i'm going to do that again—using a regular weekly posting schedule as a series of self-imposed deadlines, and editing the upcoming chapter over the course of the week. i've built up a pad with the first few chapters being ready, but i think i'll have a lot to pick at with the later chapters. i'm trying several new and unusual things with this fic, and i want them to land correctly.
i'm also going to have a big behind the scenes post to write up! there's a lot i want to talk about non-vaguely, and a lot of stuff where i'm wondering if someone's going to pick up on it as i'm posting.
man! i'm so excited i actually got this done. now i can spend the rest of the week(end) playing pokemon.
