fic talk: be excellent to oneself

ha... hoo. oh boy, this faux nano thing does not work for me.

i am just not wired to force myself to do something every day. i've proven this to myself over and over and i still feel so guilty every time i try again and realize, again, that it simply does not work for me. and that's okay! there's nothing bad or wrong about not being able to write X amount or draw X amount every day. i just need to keep telling myself that it's okay. it's not a discipline thing. i just need regular breaks from projects or else i become absolutely incapable of working on them.

anyways, i'm 24 days into my goal of "write something, anything every day in november" and folks it just will not go. it's making me dread writing. i'm at a point where i want to leave S11 au alone for a month because i'm starting to hate it. and that sucks.

i think for now i might work on some notes for the shin/drifter "aunor doesn't realize she's in a romcom" fic and see if that'll be my last week of "write something" (oh... god november is almost over. oh i don't want this.) and let S11 au simmer for a bit so i can come back with fresh eyes and i. will. not. feel. guilty. about. it.

on the plus side, though, i've realized that doing notes on paper is really, really working for me. it's actually been less "notes" than spitballing ideas, but something about writing it down physically and not being able to just delete it out feels good. and besides, that way it's easier to come back to an old idea i'd tossed to see if it'll work for me in a different way. i think i'm gonna try doing this more regularly throughout next year (boy it sure is basically time to do new year's resolutions huh) and you may ask, basia, is this an excuse to buy yourself a really cute notebook for writing? i plead the fifth.
